Oregon has no law requiring a waiting period between a firearm purchase and delivery to the buyer. However, in 2022, Oregon voters enacted a ballot measure to require people seeking to acquire firearms to obtain a permit qualifying them to purchase or acquire firearms for five years, unless revoked. To obtain the permit, applicants are generally required to complete a firearm safety training course and pass a thorough fingerprint based background check; as a result, this permit process may function to implicitly impose a waiting period on people who do not yet have a permit and prevent them from gaining immediate access to firearms during periods of crisis.
