In 2015, 120 people died from firearm-related injuries in the District of Columbia, an increase of 40% from the previous year. In 2009, the District of Columbia supplied a lower number of crime guns to other states per capita than any state, and was a significant importer of crime guns — guns originally purchased in another state that were recovered after being used in a crime in the District.
